Snuggling together and reading to your child is a special time for parents and children. It creates a special bond and a lifelong love of books. Books and music are among the most powerful and nurturing early childhood learning experiences. Realizing this to be true, the Harold Grinspoon Foundation of Massachusetts launched its first PJ Library program in 2005 for children ages 6 months to 6 years of age.

The Grinspoon Foundation, along with the Grossman Foundation, the Minneapolis Jewish Federation and the Family and Parenting Center is now bringing the PJ Library to the first 400 families in the Minneapolis area.

The program will be free for the first year to families who have children 6 months to 6 years of age and live in Minneapolis suburbs. After the first year, there is an $18 renewal fee each year.

Every month, your child will receive a Jewish children’s book, CD of Jewish music or a select parenting book, along with a guide to help parent’s access Jewish information. Children of different ages receive different materials.

A highlight of this program is that it is designed to engage families. It is particularly sensitive to those who may not feel confident with their own knowledge of Judaism and helps support them in sharing it with their children.

Through this program, we hope to see families’ special moments become Jewish moments.
